How to properly use and maintain the lithium battery UPS to extend the battery life? As the saying goes, correct use and maintenance of the battery pack is one of the key factors to extend the battery pack life and reduce the total failure rate of lithium battery UPS power supply. As a reliable power supply guarantee, UPS battery pack has been applied to computer room, data center, industrial equipment and other fields. How to properly use and maintain lithium battery UPS to extend the battery pack life?
How to properly use and maintain the lithium battery UPS power supply?
Lithium battery is an important part of the UPS system. Its quality directly affects the reliability of the entire UPS system. If users can use and maintain it correctly, its service life can be extended. There are several factors that affect the service life of lithium battery UPS: installation, temperature, charging and discharging, load, charger selection and long-term charging.
① Regular inspection
Regularly check the terminal voltage and internal resistance of each cell battery. During the operation of lithium battery UPS power supply, since the above imbalance caused by the battery characteristics of each unit over time cannot be eliminated by the charging circuit inside the UPS power supply, the imbalance of battery packs with obvious imbalance will become more and more serious if offline equalizing charging is not taken in time.
② Float charging again
The UPS power supply has been shut down for more than 10 days. Before restart, the UPS power supply should be started under no load condition to recharge the lithium battery with floating charge for more than 10~12h using the charging circuit inside the machine and then run with load. The lithium battery UPS power supply is in the floating charge state for a long time without discharging process, which is equivalent to being in the "storage for use" state. If this state lasts for too long, the battery will become invalid and scrapped due to "too long storage". It is mainly shown by the increase of internal resistance of the battery, which can reach several Ω in severe cases.
Therefore, it is recommended that the user should deliberately unplug the mains power input every 20 ° C months to allow the UPS power supply to work in the state where the battery supplies energy to the inverter. However, this operation should not take too long. When the load is about 30% of the rated output, discharge for about 10min.
③ Reduce deep discharge
The service life of the battery pack is closely related to the depth of its discharge. The lighter the load carried by the UPS power supply, the greater the ratio of the available capacity of the battery pack to its rated capacity when the mains power supply is interrupted. In this case, when the UPS power supply automatically shuts down due to the low battery voltage, the deeper the battery is discharged.
④ Use the peak power supply to charge
For users whose UPS power supply has been in low voltage mains power supply or frequent power outages for a long time, in order to prevent premature battery damage due to long-term insufficient charging, full use should be made of the power supply peak (such as late at night) to charge the battery to ensure that the battery has enough charging time after each discharge. Generally, after the battery is deeply discharged, it takes at least 10~12h to recharge to 90% of the rated capacity.
⑤ Pay attention to the selection of charger
When using the lithium battery UPS power supply, be careful not to set the low battery voltage protection working point too low, otherwise, over-current charging may occur at the initial stage of its charging. Of course, it is better to choose a charger with both constant current and constant voltage for charging.
⑥ Ensure the ambient temperature of the power supply
The available capacity of the battery is closely related to the ambient temperature. Generally, the ambient temperature is required to be about 25 ℃.
⑦ Of course, in order to prolong the service life of lithium battery pack, we should not only pay attention to maintenance and use, but also fully consider the load characteristics (resistance, inductance, capacitance) and size when selecting. Do not operate the battery under excessive light load for a long time to avoid the battery being scrapped due to the low discharge current of the battery.
⑧ The battery pack shall be installed in a clean, cool, ventilated and dry place as far as possible, and shall be protected from the influence of sunlight, heater or other radiation heat sources. The battery shall be placed upright without tilting.
